About Christopher Schauffele

A hard rock mining professional with experience holding senior level management roles at mine site operations and corporate offices. Experience ranging from Mine Technical Services Director, Operations General Manager for both open pit and underground Tier 1 copper mines. My current role is the Corporate Project Manager overseeing all aspects of a new underground mine build. Including successful transition of a feasibility study into detailed engineering and construction for two mine shafts which will access the new underground mine. Project capital costs are estimated at $534M USD. Over my career I have excelled in positions where I perform as the link between the operations and the corporate office. My approach is to develop and drive value add opportunities at the mine level which provide benefits to the corporate cash flow under guidance of corporate mission. Five years working in Chile allowed me to become a Spanish speaker with sufficient ability to present at conferences and conduct business in Spanish. Three years working in Botswana has taught me how to conduct business in Southern Africa’s challenging political and supply chain environment. As a foreigner working with national teams I have learned how to bridge cultures, gain the trust, confidence and properly influence the team to get the job done. Key responsibilities and successes associated with my current role as Project Manager- Complete autonomy and responsibility for $534M USD of EPCM work - Provide strategic direction to Project’s management team - Managed the input for business cash flow scenarios combining project capital costs and future mine forecasts to obtain project bank financing- The lead negotiator for large mining contracts ($203M USD shaft sinking contract)- Quarterly reporting to Executives and Directors for roll up into public corporate material- Staff management of both Batswana nationals and Expatriates. Total team complement +50 people- Work with government agencies to acquire environmental and construction permits- Overseeing technical team's output for use with the Lender’s technical review agent- Maintain high safety standards during construction. Over 500 people with total reportable injury frequency rate less than 0.22 with +2 million hours worked.
