Background
About Christopher Schreck
I am an ACA Certified Archivist with a master's degree in History. My professional focus is on the history flight, military history, and the Air Force Academy in particular, though I have also studied and written extensively on industry and culture in the American West. I have experience working with college interns and students of all ages, and I enjoy working with members of the community in a public history setting. I was the Lead Archivist in the Clark Special Collections branch of the US Air Force Academy library in Colorado Springs for over four years. I was responsible for processing archival collections, developing policies and procedures that guide our processing and digital access activities, and overseeing the work of our contractors and volunteers. From 2015 to 2018 I was the Archives Manager for the Steelworks Center of the West, a non-profit organization focused on preserving Southern Colorado's industrial history. The Steelworks Center is home to the archives and artifacts of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company and its predecessor and subsidiary companies. It is also home to the Steelworks Museum, which provides exhibits and educational programming to visitors of all ages. I stepped in as Interim Executive Director of the organization from January to November of 2017. As Archives Manager of the Steelworks Center I maintained the organization’s archival collections, digitized archival materials, assisted students and researchers, supervised student interns, and I co-produced a book for Arcadia Press’ Images of America series titled "The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company" in 2018. As Interim Executive Director I managed the center’s staff and volunteers, maintaining the organization’s budget, and oversaw the construction of a 5.7-acre multi-use artifact park. I also participated in fundraising efforts by writing appeal letters to the community, and by working collaboratively with staff and directors on a number of successful grant applications. I earned a Master’s Degree in History from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in 2020, where I was awarded a Graduate Student Research Fellowship in 2019 and was recognized as an Outstanding Graduate Student in 2020. Before that I graduated Magna Cum Laude (3.9 GPA) from Colorado State University-Pueblo with a B.A. in History in 2015. I am self-motivated and family oriented, loyal, hardworking, and I take great pride in everything I do.
