Background

About Christopher Stoicheff

Christopher Stoicheff (MA)(MPPGA) is Senior Director of Public Affairs at Domtar. He earned a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs (MPPGA) degree from the University of British Columbia, specializing in "Global Governance and Security" policy. His dedication to research and policy analysis while obtaining this degree is exemplified by his publication in the Journal of Impact Assessment & Project Appraisal for fieldwork conducted in Ethiopia. He earned an MA from the University of Saskatchewan. His thesis, titled "The Policy of Foreign Takeovers in Canada’s Non-Renewable Resource Sector," delved into the complex landscape of foreign takeovers. Specifically, Christopher analyzed the hostile takeover attempt of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (PCS) by BHP Billiton, as well as the CNOOC takeover of Nexen Inc. Prior to his current position, Christopher served as the Director of Public Affairs and Communications (North America) at Huawei Technologies LTD, with roles based in Washington, D.C, and Vancouver. His strategic leadership helped the company navigate geopolitical business challenges in the North American telecommunications market and helped promote Huawei's Tech4All global CSR campaign. Christopher's professional career also includes four years at the University of Saskatchewan, where he played a pivotal role in government affairs, spearheading capital fundraising initiatives for critical infrastructure renewal on campus. Through his efforts, the U of S raised an impressive $33.4 million in federal grants. In government, Christopher served as a Ministerial Assistant to several Ministers in the Government of Saskatchewan, including the Minister of Justice & Attorney General, as well as the Minister of Advanced Education, Employment, Labour, and Immigration. These experiences provided him with invaluable insights into policymaking and navigating complex government landscapes. He also served as a Special Assistant to MP Ralph Goodale. Christopher's commitment to public service extends back to his tenure as the University of Saskatchewan Students' Union (USSU) President in 2010. His advocacy efforts led to the establishment of a new 90-space childcare facility and a reduction in the interest rate for student loans to the prime rate of borrowing. Christopher was honoured with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. This prestigious recognition highlights his dedication and commitment to making a positive impact on society.
