About Christopher Veal

Christopher is a barrister specialising in civil, regulatory and public law. His practice spans a wide range of cases, and he has appeared in the High Court, Crown Court, County Court and Magistrates’ Court. In addition to his courtroom work, Christopher has a growing written and research-based practice across various areas of law.His civil practice covers property, business and commercial disputes, and inheritance matters. His public law work focuses on inquests and inquiries. Christopher also practises in regulatory law, with an emphasis on compliance and professional discipline, advising and representing individuals, organisations and professionals in investigations, disciplinary proceedings and matters where regulatory obligations intersect with civil, and occasionally criminal, liability.Christopher completed pupillage at 2 Hare Court, where he gained experience in complex and high-profile matters. His work included assisting the Welsh contingent to the COVID-19 Inquiry, involvement in the inquest into the death of Gunner Beck, and work relating to Russian sanctions. He has assisted on cases led by senior counsel, including Treasury Counsel, and has developed a reputation for precise drafting, sound judgment and strong oral advocacy.Before coming to the Bar, Christopher served as a Warfare Officer in the Royal Navy, gaining operational and leadership experience in the Middle East and Gibraltar, and later serving as a Command Legal Advisor. That experience informs his calm, analytical approach to advocacy and his ability to perform effectively under pressure. He holds an LL.B. from the University of Exeter, an LL.M. from the University of London, and achieved a Distinction in the Bar Practice Course, with ‘Outstanding’ grades in Advocacy, Conference and both Criminal and Civil Litigation.Outside of the law, Christopher enjoys tennis, swimming, running and cycling, and is learning Spanish.
