About Christopher Weaver

With more than 30 years of experience in computer software and telecommunications engineering, Christopher Weaver is currently Distinguished Professor of Computational Media at Wesleyan; a Lecturer in Materials Science and Engineering at MIT; a Research Scientist in Comparative Media, and a Board Member of the Communications Technology Roadmap Group in the MIT Microphotonics Center. Weaver founded Bethesda Softworks in 1986 which later morphed into ZeniMax Media to expand Bethesda's development of multimedia platforms beyond videogames and served as CTO. Zenimax became one of the world's largest private videogame companies before being sold to Microsoft in 2021. A former member of the Architecture Machine Group and Fellow of the MIT Communications and Policy Program, he was a Fellow of the Robotics Simulation Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon. He was inducted into the Cosmos Club for excellence in engineering in 2005. Some of his past and present appointments include: American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, National Research Council, International Game Developers Association, Cable Telecommunications Research Institute, Society of Cable Television Engineers, Aspen Institute, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In 2016 he was named a Distinguished Research Scholar at the Smithsonian. Weaver serves on the boards of numerous charitable organizations and is a volunteer air ambulance pilot for the AngelFlight Medical Network.
