About Christos Istantso
I graduated from Aristotle's University of Thessaloniki from the faculty of Geology in 2020. Then I proceeded further with my studies by starting my Master's in Applied & Environmental Geology with specialization in Engineering Geology & the Environment, which I completed in November 2022. During my academic studies I got involved with geotechnical and geological issues like, site investigations, drilling technics and supervision, soil & rock mechanics, remote sensing, GIS applications, 3D modeling, geological data assessment and interpretation, groundwater investigations, environmental geology. geological and geotechnical mapping. My career as a engineering geologist started, right after my Master's degree, with Omikron Kappa. During my time there I got the opportunity to be part of two projects, in which I dealt with issues such as core logging, geological mapping, geological and geotechnical modelling and interpretation, writing of geological and geotechnical surveys. Furthermore, I developed further my communication skills by being a member of a team which was consisting of people from various backgrounds in the field of engineering. On June of 2023 I got employed as a Mine Geologist for Hellas Gold S.A. As Mine Geologist my job requires to spend time underground in order to provide geotechnical face mappings, drill rig's supervision, QA/QC procedures and solutions in order to overcome structural and geotechnical hazards. Furthermore, I participate to geological and geotechnical logging in order to provide new geological models, but also to assess and update older ones. In this line of work communication is the key, since a lot of different works happen simultaneously underground and most of them pose a risk to someone's safety. Personally, I am a people's person. I enjoy the company of others as much I enjoy working with others. I really love travelling and have the opportunity to come close to different cultures. I enjoy solving problems, learn new skills and enrich my knowledge.
