About Christy Handel

I have an excellent foundation in microbial research, particularly on Cyanobacteria and quorum sensing in biofilms. My graduate work involved researching N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) producing microbes in an astrobiology context. I am well versed in high throughput molecular biology work, AHL extractions and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses, MinION and Illumina next generation sequencing technologies, various bioinformatics softwares, and command line for sequence data analyses.Other skills include: organization, a demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately, excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable interacting with individuals of academic and demographic diversity, and pay strong attention to detail.Fluent in English, satisfactory in Spanish, and rudimentary in Russian.Research has been featured in the December 2023 issue of Astrobiology (https://doi.org/10.1089/ast.2023.0072) and an abstract presented at NASA AbSciCon 2019: Rebecca D.
