Background
About Chrys Peralta
Here’s what got to me where I am now:'76—a summer computer programming job at Baruch College, CUNY, led me to working with people with blindness as a primary disability. We worked with punch cards! I loved it. ’77—worked in the Deaf-Blind Program at Perkins School f/t Blind from September for 3 years. Learned sign language! ’81—graduated from Boston College with a M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Teacher of the Visually Impaired. Started working in the Adult Services Program at Perkins, in the Head Injury Unit. After training occupational therapists (OTs) in low vision techniques, I decided to become the OT for that unit. ’91—started a 2 ½ yr program at Boston University, and 6 months before graduation, the HIU closed. My 17th year at Perkins was in the Talking Book Library. Learned some more! ’94—through serendipity, got a full time job as an OT in the Vision Rehab Services at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Absolutely wonderful place to work-exciting and fun! ’06—went to Adaptive Technology Consulting, where I worked with some amazing people who cohesively assisted people with vision issues of all kinds. ’09—did Home Care for 3 years gave me a different perspective of OT—Physical Dysfunction—which most OTs get right away. One of the hardest jobs of my life. ’12—the opportunity to work with VisionCare was something I could not pass up, as I so agreed with the philosophy of the premise. ’14—now, as an OT with MABVI, I am so excited to be able to put all my skills into practice, again! I get to do direct care, and teach, and learn, and once again, work with a phenomenal team of people!'17-took the test for Certified Low Vision Therapist and passed!
