About Chuck Silvertooth
Student Accomplishment: August 9, 2012 Jacksonville Texas is looking at a winner — a Jacksonville ISD student placed eighth in the Microsoft Excel 2007 category of The 2012 Certiport Worldwide Competition on Microsoft Office. An estimated 285,00 candidates participated in the competition, representing 53 countries, demonstrating popular technology skills and their mastery of Microsoft Office products, a press release stated. “With more than a half a million exam uploads this year, the growing popularity of the Microsoft Office competition reflects the desire for students to master these key productivity skills worldwide,” said Lutz Ziob, General Manager of Microsoft Learning, Microsoft Corp, in a press release. “The winners have studied and become experts in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint, and now they can apply those skills as they further their academic careers and enter the workforce. Knowing industry-leading Microsoft programs inside and out will help them be more productive and I believe it will be a shining star on their resume for the rest of their life.” Gabriela represented the United States in the competition as she advanced to the final round with 113 other student finalists in Las Vegas on July 29 and Aug. “There was two parts in the test,” she said. “The first part was just instructions on things to do on the spreadsheet and the second part, they gave us an illustration of a spreadsheet I had to create.” The test was taken in groups. Each group had 28 competitors in it. Gabriela went with the first group. “I was very nervous,” she said. “Throughout the test I kept thinking,'What am I doing? Am I doing it right? This is so hard.' I did better than I expected though.”] Gabriela said although she did not win first place, she feels accomplished placing eighth in the worldwide competition. “(I feel accomplished) because I was among the top 10,” she said.
