About Chyna Gowan

I received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of West Georgia in December 2018. During my undergraduate career, I was published twice in UWG’s literary magazine, LURe and multiple times in the creative journal Eclectic. I also served as a LURe staff editor for three semesters, and I continued to serve as a graduate editor for the journal. I presented research at numerous campus-wide conferences as well as at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research. I was awarded the Mr. Marion L. & Mrs. Douglass Fisher Award for superior studies/research in American Literature. I also received an award for excellence in tutoring during my graduate program. I am a member and was a VP of Sigma Tau Delta, and I served as the graduate representative for UWG's Writing Center committee. I was also selected to attend the Sewanee Writers Conference as a M.A. poetry candidate in the summer of 2019. I have traveled to five countries, and I have a working proficiency in French and Italian. I am currently an English teacher in Carroll County. I am also working toward pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching. I love writing and reading, and I love helping teenagers grow to appreciate writing and reading. I believe in dreaming big and pursuing even the most radical of ideas. I strive for excellence, and I foster the same striving in my students.
