About Ciara Venter
I am a fourth-year graduate student in the clinical psychology doctoral program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. My research and clinical interests center on perinatal mental health among women of color, with a particular focus on postpartum depression. I am committed to advancing research that moves beyond deficit-based frameworks by highlighting the cultural strengths and resilience that protect mothers of color from poor mental health outcomes. My work is grounded in an understanding of the social determinants of mental health and aims to promote culturally informed assessment practices as well as culturally responsive treatment approaches.
