I started out writing for a couple cents a word, scraping together a living from Facebook posts, ProBlogger, and other obscure places on the internet. COVID was in full swing, and I had just left my teaching job in Vietnam. I didn't know how I was going to do it — I just knew I had to earn a living writing. A few people took a chance on me (thank you God!) and started giving me more responsibility and income. Slowly I started easing off those pennies for words jobs and earning a wage that could pay my rent, food, and eventually travels. I spent 8 months backpacking from Oaxaca, Mexico down into Central America. I was still scraping together a living with the ups and downs of freelancing, but it was the time of my life. I stayed in hostels, hunkered down with my laptop on the floors of dorm rooms, and spent my free time exploring. Fast forward to a financially devastating surprise tax return a couple years later, and I realized something had to change. Again, someone took a chance on me (thank you again, God!) and gave me a full-time job in content marketing. Queue newsletters, a big ole Slack group, and the labyrinth that is GA. As great as it was, I was eventually laid off due to financial reasons. Yet again, someone gave me a chance, and I secured a full-time role just a month after being laid off. God is good! That brings us up to today, where I'm producing content and working with talented writers every day. There’s still so much ahead, but if this journey has taught me anything, it’s that trust, hard work, and faith will always lead to good things — even if you don’t see them coming.
