I love Training…. When I was actively Floor nursing, I was a Preceptor for Nursing Students and New Grads from a local college, and also Orienteer for new RNs to the unit. It made perfect sense for me to Transition from being an Analyst on the OpTime Team to their Principal Trainer, I didn’t realize what a good fit it was till my Project Manager pushed me into doing it. I get to Build in the Master training environment, create curriculum, Train the Trainers, and do actual classroom training. It is very rewarding for me to see the Trainees come in, either scared, or angry, or both at having to learn yet another System, and leave with a “Can Do” attitude. Knowing I have made their jobs a little easier by giving them the tools to document what they are doing, gives me such a Thrill. Call me a “Geek”. Luckily I thrive in what I call “Controlled Chaos”, which is what training is at times. When the trainees are in class, and we identify un-validated workflows, we often have to think outside the box to accommodate further clarification of needed build or training classes. All in all, each day is different, with new opportunities to train better than before. We as trainers are forever looking for ways to improve our presentations, to improve learning. To make the Trainees class room time more effective. I was once told I need a “Hook” to engage the Trainees, weather it was Doctors, Anesthesiologist, or Nurses. My hook is I Walk the Walk, and Talk the Talk. Meaning I understand the Clinical side of training IT to Perioperative staff. Cindy Barrera Lbarrera-99@hotmailcom
