About Cindy Brcko

Cindy Brcko is a skilled social work clinician with over 20 years experience. She has worked in a variety of settings including not-for-profit, community-based, hospital in-patient and out-patient programs, public and private sectors. Cindy began her career working with intellectually disabled adults in Toronto for 2 years at a not-for-profit organization and has devoted 20 years working as a geriatric social worker at Baycrest Health Sciences. She prides herself at being a strong advocate for her elderly clients and their caregivers. Cindy’s approach to practice is client-centred and strengths-based. She integrates several therapeutic modalities into her work including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness based therapy, solution-focused therapy and narrative therapy. Cindy has extensive experience in providing counselling to individuals, couples and families around life transitions, system navigation, caregiver stress, grief and loss, understanding and coping with chronic, progressive and terminal diagnoses. Cindy has facilitated caregiver support groups, has been involved with training Family Practice Residents and Baycrest volunteers. She co-authored a published article entitled, “Negotiating Relationship Contexts in Gerontological Social Work Practice”, and has been invited to lecture at York University and the University of Toronto on several occasions. Cindy maintains close ties with local universities and has been a Practicum Supervisor to MSW candidates for many years. She is in excellent standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
