About Cindy Brown

TN certified high school science teacher experienced instructing diverse science curricula, modifying instruction based on learning style, and effectively using feedback as formative assessment. Courses taught include Environmental Chemistry, Physical science, Biology, Chemistry (I, II, and AP). Strengths include ability to both efficiently analyze data and creative a supportive learning environment. Online technologies, hands on laboratory investigations, and interactive lectures / guided practice are large parts of every unit plan. In Ecology, students research real world problems such as stormwater pollution prevention and loss of global biodiversity In Chemistry, students design labs to separate materials and calculate alloy percentages. Scientific literacy is a necessity for all students. A meaningful science curriculum will enhance job skills, build a strong academic foundation, increase awareness of environmental issues, and inspire an appreciation of scientific wonder. I enjoy guiding students to grasp essential understandings while encouraging them to ask their own questions. A collaborative approach ensures instruction not only addresses the SPIs but tailors learning to student interests. While teaching scientific thought is not always a smooth linear pathway, it is exciting to see learners emerge from their struggles equipped with complex problem solving skills and increased confidence in their abilities.
