Background

About Cindy Mann

Dr Cindy Mann, PhD, joined the Centre for Academic Primary Care in June 2014 to conduct the process evaluation of a large complex trial to improve the care of people with multimorbidity, using a person-centred approach. Her PhD was awarded in January 2019. She is now working on a project to improve collaborative health planning between patients with long-term conditions and their primary care clinicians. Process evaluation, person-centred care and patient public involvement are her current skills and she is the academic lead for the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement strategy of the Centre for Academic Primary Care at Bristol University. Cindy previously worked as a clinical nurse specialist in rheumatology and achieved an MSc in Rheumatology Nursing at Keele University. Previous roles in GP practices included practice nurse, counsellor and research facilitator. Her research experience includes 4 years as a senior research nurse at North Bristol NHS Trust, and 9 months with an arthritis research group at Boston University, USA. She also worked for 11 years as a Relate counsellor and trainer. Her own research has included qualitative research on the impact of rheumatoid arthritis, the care of those with osteoarthritis, and an evaluation of a new method of training recruitment nurses on an orthopaedic randomised controlled trial. Cindy’s core interest is facilitating people with long-term conditions to maximise their well-being, by providing person-centred support, health-related information and promoting people's active involvement in their healthcare. Working on improving ways of providing health services is strongly linked to this interest.
