About Cj MacKinnon-Scott

CJ is a teacher who has experienced diversity both in the classroom and online. Armed with just a B.A. she launched her teaching career in 1987 at a private high school in Miami Florida, where she taught a variety of subjects from SAT Preparation to Family Science. She moved on to teaching College English at Wheaton College in Illinois, after she graduated from Wheaton with an M.A. in Communications. After returning to her native Canada in 1994, CJ earned her secondary school teaching certificate, and B.Ed at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver. It was there, in 2001, she first explored the new frontier – online teaching. When she moved,with her husband, Steve, to rural BC, her teaching experience expanded overseas, taking her to Korea, Saudi Arabia and The Dominican Republic. For the last six years she has been developing distributed learning curriculum for high school English courses and teaching online classes for grades 10-12 in English Language Arts, Literature, and AP English with Traditional Learning Academy, an independent distributed learning school in British Columbia, Canada. In 2013, CJ piloted an online, interdisciplinary project-based learning program for grades 9-12 students called Innovations Online. The program focuses on the development of 4 core competencies: creativity, critical-thinking, collaboration and communication.
