About Clair Humphery

In my classroom I work hard to create an environment in which children feel safe to express their feelings and learn to respect and listen to others. For me it is important that each person’s ideas and opinions are valued. I always strive to create a sense of community and belonging in the classroom. The mutual respect in my classroom provides a supportive, collaborative environment. In this small community, there are rules to follow and jobs to be done and each of my pupils is aware that he or she is an important, integral part of the group. I consider myself to be warm, accessible, enthusiastic and caring. I am approachable, not only to children, but to everyone in the school. I am a person to whom people know they can go with any problems or concerns or even to share a funny story. I possess good listening skills and take time out of my busy schedule for anyone who needs me. With my own love of learning I try to inspire students with my passion for education and for the course material. I am passionate about learning new teaching strategies or incorporating new technologies into lessons, and I am always willing to share what I have learned with colleagues. I focus on shared decision-making and teamwork, as well as on community building. In my classroom, I try to provide opportunities for each of them to assume leadership roles. Over the years I have learnt how to “shift-gears” and be flexible when a lesson isn’t working. I assess my teaching throughout the lessons and try to find new ways to present material to make sure that every child understands the key concepts. I have experience collaborating with colleagues on an ongoing basis.I view collaboration as a way to learn from a fellow professional. Finally, I maintain professionalism in all areas—from personal appearance to organizational skills and preparedness for each day. I communicate with respect whether speaking with an administrator, one of my pupils or a colleague.
