About Claire Cavalieri

As the daughter of a Modernist architect, I grew up in Detroit immersed in modernist design both in my mid-century modern home as well as in the blossoming Modernist culture surrounding Detroit in the 1960s-1970s. When my dad was designing our new home, he gave me the opportunity, at age 11, to decorate my own bedroom, guided by his interior designer. She took me to her studio and to artisans’ workshops to watch crafts being handmade. Those were transformative moments! I was thrilled by it all! That’s when I knew interior design would greatly affect who I am today. I had Eames and Herman Miller furniture in my bedroom which I didn’t recognize as important at the time. What I knew was that I just adored the elegant and artful style. This instant passion prompted me to learn all I could about Modernism over the next several decades to become an expert. Our modernist home was a designer’s dream, filled with mid-century modern interiors and original artworks from around the globe. Through constant exposure, my brothers and I were raised to believe that beautiful aesthetics enrich one’s daily life. I’ve internalized that belief as well as the art and design principles I learned by osmosis that have ultimately developed my modernist design style. Eventually, my intense desire to design spaces for lovers of modern design revealed my true purpose. With a BA in Business, post-graduate education in Art, a 15-year career in residential real estate and home staging, a 25-year career in photography, and over 30 years as a successful entrepreneur, now I am very proud to be the owner and principal designer of Cavalieri Designs. Today I’m thrilled to be blending my passion for and my expertise in Mid-Century Modernism with my deep connection to my Italian roots.(Through art, design, architecture and culture, the Italians have, for centuries, revered beauty.) By enriching lives with beauty, artistry and joy, I’m sharing my God-given talents with busy professionals who also love Modernism. When not designing, you’ll find me behind the lens of a real camera (I’m talking Canon, not iPhone!) or arranging flowers. Or maybe making handmade pasta. Mamma mia!
