About Claire McCarthy

I am a general pediatrician at Boston Children's Hospital. I work as a primary care pediatrician at Boston Children's Primary Care at Longwood; I have done primary care since 1991 and love it dearly. The medicine can be fascinating, and it's an honor to be allowed into the lives of families, and to help children and families thrive. I also teach primary care to the residents at Boston Children's. I am also the director of a program at Boston Children's Hospital called the Pediatric Diagnostic Program. We see patients with unclear diagnoses that span specialties, helping to make diagnoses and help these children move forward and live a better, healthier life. We tailor our evaluations to the needs of the child and family, working with the many talented and experienced specialists at Boston Children's. I also direct the International Medical Home, which provides general pediatric care to the children who come from all over the world to seek specialty care at Boston Children's.I have been a professional writer for more than 25 years-I have written two books, been a regular columnist for two different parenting magazines and done freelance writing for many magazines, newspapers and websites. I was a senior editor and writer for Harvard Health Publications for 18 years, and am an official spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics.
