About Clare Pearson

I am a courageous and capable leader; who operates with strong moral boundaries and compassion. I am personally and professionally resilient; and I have led large staff groups in challenging and adverse environments. I have over two decades of experience of working with complex and challenging men and women, in custodial settings. I have worked in nine public sector prisons (governing four) and one private sector prison (Contract Director). Much of my experience has been with men in high security settings, balancing significant risk with the approach of offering hope and decency, within a rehabilitative environment and safe environment. I am passionate about creating an environment for those serving long sentences, which reduces trauma and is ordered, safe, restorative and normalising. I am skilled in assessing and adapting business structures and teams; strategic leadership of large and complex teams; professional development of individuals and teams in both operational and non operational environments; command of large incidents (trained as a silver and gold commander - based on a structure of defensible decision making in a multi disciplinary command suite); risk assessment and management decision making. Over recent years, I have taken the opportunity to broaden my focus to a commercial environment. This has developed my skills in contract management; delivery; stakeholder management and capability in profit and loss; new business and bid work. I have spent many years coaching and mentoring colleagues and individuals from other career backgrounds. I have also received a number of periods of executive coaching; mindful of the need for agility of style.
