Background

About Clare Taylor

In 2012 Dr Clare Taylor was a co-founder (with her late husband Sir Roger Gifford) of City Music Foundation and a Trustee. Since 2015 she has been employed as its Managing Director, and now CEO. CMF helps selected exceptional young professional musicians with comprehensive career development as well as agency and management so that they can keep on making music for a living, and not be lost to the profession. Its aim is 'turning talent into success'. Our broader aim is that CMF Artists are ready for four decades or more of contributing to society’s culture and wellbeing, inspiring the next generation. The final reach of CMF Artists in the course of a successful career, transformed by the in-work education provided by CMF, is huge - through live performance, CDs, streaming, broadcasts, teaching and mentoring – giving back a thousand-fold what CMF has given to them. CMF represents Clare’s second career – previously she was a hospital doctor. She trained at Barts and obtained a PhD at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund before going becoming a consultant haematologist at the Royal Free Hospital. She is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists. Before taking a career break to support her husband Roger in his role as Lord Mayor of London, Clare was a medical director within the UK blood services, a consultant to the MHRA and held an international role in haemovigilance. Whilst a doctor, Clare sang with the choir of St Barts the Great, the Tallis Chamber Choir, the Holst Singers and with Collegium Musicum for whom she was a soloist in St John’s Smith Square. Clare is a Director of Ludlow Song and a Trustee of Two Moors Festival, and is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries. Clare has co-authored three books about the art of the Mansion House – on the Harold Samuel Collection (with Michael Hall), the sculptures (with Julius Bryant) and the regalia, gold and silver (with Ralph Holt and Michael Hall). She has also written a children’s book about Dick Whittington (Bloomsbury).
