Background
About Clarice Linskey
I have volunteered with the organization Grand Canyon Trust on two different projects: 1. On the Mogollon Rim using GPS technology to find springs and collect data to advocate for spring restoration 2. On the Navajo Nation near Antelope Canyon help with Indigenous economic development by helping two local Indigenous business owners. We provided physical labor for their Antelope Canyon tours business including building ramadas for campsites as well as helping to paint handrails of the staircase that descended into the canyon. We also learned about the importance of economic growth, especially in a food desert, as well as more knowledge about the surrounding area of the Navajo Nation I also helped contribute input and development to the Rising Leaders Program at Grand Canyon Trust as well as attended several lobbying workshops to prepare for Environmental Day at the capital in Phoenix, AZ. I have completed two service trips to Auga Prieta, Mexico, where I helped to build houses with fellow classmates, volunteered and taught dance classes at a local high school and orphanage, as well as help to give out hundreds of grocery items to tens of hundreds of families in a local neighborhood. During this trip, we were also educated about the devastating realities of migrants and the impact of the U.S-Mexico border wall on families, individuals, and, the environment, and migratory species. We attended a court case that processed migrants that were detained and analyzed how the court system in Tucson, Arizona processed these individuals. We also volunteered with "No more Deaths" in Tucson and put out water jugs in the desert to help migrants survive the strenuous journey. Along with volunteer work, I also have job experience. I worked as a food server at Fratelli Pizza in Flagstaff, AZ, where I also learned very meaningful skills of service, diligence, multitasking, emotional intelligence, group teamwork, critical thinking, and a great deal of problem-solving and conflict resolution. As problems can arise from mistakes in food preparation, it is essential to have problem-solving skills and effective communication to reassure customers. Currently, I work at the Ecological Restoration Institute (ERI). I work in a lab and analyze tree cores to date their age. Over the summer, I assist with research through fieldwork and helping to collect data about ecosystems throughout Northern Arizona. I am learning a lot about research as well as analyzing data. As a student project for ERI, I am currently an Intern with the Friends of the Rio de Flag.
