About Claus Putz

In 2008 I completed my diploma programme in Land & Water Management and Engineering at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. My focus was on water & waste management. Through my two-semester stay abroad in Sweden I was able to deepen my knowledge in the field of water management. In fieldwork for my diploma thesis, I gained valuable foreign experience in Mozambique. In 2013, I began a master programme in Organic Agricultural Systems and Agroecology, also at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences. The training emphases chosen by me are et al. international environmental law & water legislation, water resources planning and management, participatory methods, systems analysis and scenario technique, development research and (organic) agriculture. As a full-time job, I have been working from 2010 - 2020 in a civil engineering office as a project officer in the areas of water management, hydrology, hydrogeology, groundwater management & modelling and environmental impact assessment, including experience in environmental law (Water Framework Directive, Austrian Water Act, UVP-Gesetz, etc.). Since 2020 I am project manager for flood protection at viadonau - Österreichische Wasserstraßen-Gesellschaft mbH. Since 2011, I have been involved in development cooperation as the chairman of "PFAU – Promise Foundation Austria, association for the furtherance of pupils in Zimbabwe". As the main person in charge, I have already been able to implement a number of projects, such as planning and organizing a nutritional programme for 830 pupils, planning a water supply system and planning a school kitchen and a kindergarten for a primary school. At present, we work on the implementation of further sustainable projects for the school. With the association, I also organize events such as lectures and concerts.
