Began sawmill career as Laborer/Operator. Set goal to attain a Mechanical position. Worked weekend overtime as Maintenance Helper. Learned welding, cutting, repairs, etc. Received a part time Mechanical position. Management offered a Saw Filing position. Attained full time Mechanical position 3 years later when a position became available. Management offered a place on an in-house Ergonomic Team to reduce soft tissue repetitive strain injuries. Under the guidance of an outside Consultant, we reduced said injuries by over 50%. During tenure as Production Supervisor, our crew set the goal of increasing productivity by 10% without an increase in our OSHA rate. We increased productivity by 30%, reduced our OSHA rate by over 40%, and without any increase in costs or any Capital Expenditure. The guys set many Production records. Led the Maintenance group during a complete modernization of the Sawmill. This included a fully optimized, state of the art facility. We set many goals and achieved them all. Including attaining 100% Uptime on multiple occasions, consistently achieved 85% Uptime, annual average of 82% Uptime and 82% Operational Equipment Efficiency (OEE). We set goals of alleviating / eliminating bottlenecks for the sole purpose of creating a safer work environment for our Production Operators and have attained yearly OSHA rates of <1.0. We consistently achieve production at a rate of 150% of original Operational specifications and also accomplished the goal of eliminating the "division wall" between Production and Maintenance. During the past 4 years we set goals to decrease operational costs by as much as possible and achieved an annual cost reduction by 10% per thousand feet board measure while, at the same time, reduced to a one shift per day operation. During this same time period we increased productivity, reliability and experienced minimal production downtime.
