About Clayton Wehner

I am an authentic, adaptive leader with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and change-focus. My leadership is characterised by a people-centric approach: I nurture individuals and build high-performing teams; I am a proponent of emotional intelligence; and I believe that 'culture eats strategy for breakfast' in organisations. My personal mission is to make a positive difference in my home state of South Australia through people and technology.My professional expertise lies in the strategy, marketing and digital technology sphere and I have experience in a broad range of industry sectors, including Local, State and Federal Government; Military and Defence; Intelligence; Recruitment and Professional Services; Small Business; Not-for-Profits; Online Retail; Libraries; and Banking and Finance.My specific areas of expertise are marketing and communications; leadership and management; digital strategy development and implementation; digital transformation; website development; online marketing; digital analytics; eCommerce; Customer Experience/User Experience (CX/UX); search engine optimisation (SEO) and marketing (SEM); and project management. I have a Masters in Management, a BA(Hons) and an MBA; I am a graduate of the AICD Company Directors Course; a PRINCE2 practitioner; and a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College, Duntroon. Early in my career, I served for 12 years in the Australian Army as a commissioned officer in the Australian Intelligence Corps. I served in East Timor with the United Nations as a Bahasa Indonesia linguist and military assistant to the UN commander on the Indonesia-East Timor border. After military service, I worked with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as an Indonesia specialist. In addition to my 'day job', I have founded, operated and sold three internet businesses during the course of my career: an online hotel booking service, an online jobs board, and popular Australian online bookstore, Boomerang Books. I also consult and deliver training about digital strategy, digital transformation and digital marketing.
