About Clio Deferm
Clio Deferm is a research manager at KU Leuven, within the department of Chemistry, affiliated to the Solvomet group of Koen Binnemans and the U Leuven Institute for Sustainable Metals and Minerals (SIM2). Clio has completed her PhD in 2018 in the field of hydrometallurgy in collaboration with Umicore, with a focus on solvent extraction and electrowinning for the separation and purification of indium. After working as a postdoctoral researcher until 2021, she secured a permanent position as research manager. Since then, Clio has been responsible for the management, coordination and execution of various projects together with companies (Lithium Americas, Shell, Aurubis, Michelin.) and various work packages inside European projects (H2020 Sea4Value, HE Cicero.) on critical metals and sustainable metallurgical processing, with a strong emphasis on lithium, cobalt/nickel, manganese, silver, lead and copper.
