Practical and varied skills gained in the fields of Biology, retail and both heritage and contemporary railways, inform and drive an ability to make fact based decisions and solve problems in a rational manner. Voluntary and paid public facing roles have strengthened team-working and people-handling skills, giving pragmatism and flexibility in working. Previous experiences in magazine distribution, administration and restoration offer a relevant and practical complement to the core computing and analytical competencies gained through formal education. I have developed and implemented robust processes for managing seasonal preparedness and performance improvement initiatives within the railway industry against a backdrop of tightening budgets and an overall decline in network punctuallity. Over and above paid employment I continue to pursue interests in the voluntary sector and have modelled timetable options for the Severn Valley Railway, contributing to a significant improvement in the punctuality of their trains. In the long term, I intend to play a significant role in shaping the railways of the United Kingdom so that they are fit for the challenges of the future. More immediately, it is intended to play an increasing part in operating decisions on a company wide level and further increase exposure to all aspects of the industry.
