About Coda Richmond

About me: I am a rising senior at University of Illinois Chicago, majoring in Computer Science with a Math minor. I bring curiosity and a passion for learning to everything that I do, whether it's work, friendships, or hobbies. I have used this passion to dive into CS courses and maintain a 4.0 GPA, while also pursuing activities I love - including a math minor, co-founding a Women in CyberSecurity chapter at UIC, serving as the Academic Excellence chair for National Society of Black Engineers at UIC (2024-25), and volunteering as a mentor through multiple groups including Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers in MentorSHPE.In addition to co-founding WiCyS at UIC beginning in the summer of 2024, garnering University support, driving membership and attending my first WiCyS national conference in March 2025, our small but mighty board of incredible women at WiCyS UIC hosted our first ever intercollegiate Capture the Flame event in April 2025! It was hugely successful, attracting 150 Chicagoland college students and it grew my skills in planning and logistics, fundraising and attracting sponsors, and coding challenges! I have a very strong drive for results, and I'm often complimented on my soft skills, like empathy and inclusivity, as well as critical thinking and coachability. I believe this contributes to the success of everything I do. I'm grateful to have had amazing internship experiences in product security and software engineering, and going forward I'm intersted in growing my knowledge in blue team cybersecurity and machine learning. I'm currently preparing for my summer 2025 CS internship with the Data Science team at Morningstar, Inc. that will further enhance my experience and skillsets!
