Background

About Cody Bowers

Cody Bowers, countertenor, is a native of Newnan, Georgia where grew up with a love of music and singing. Cody found his countertenor voice singing in various local choirs and committed to collegiate study after he graduated from High School in 2009 at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. In the Fall of 2012 Cody transferred to the College- Conservatory of Music at The University of Cincinnati(CCM) where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice Performance under the tutelage of internationally celebrated pedagogue William McGraw. During his time in Cincinnati, Cody was able to contribute to a wide variety of operatic performances including the title role in Ravel’s L’Enfant et Les Sortilège, Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, and Roane Heckle in Jake Heggie’s newest opera Great Scott. In addition, Cody is also an active performer on the concert stage and has been featured in concerts with The Cincinnati Vocal Arts Ensemble, The Cincinnati Early Music Collegium, and The Houston Bach Society. In the Fall of 2015 Cody began his graduate study of voice at The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Texas as the Rita C. Handly Bollinger ’38 Endowed Scholar of Voice. Cody is the first countertenor in the history of Rice University to be accepted into the Shepherd School of Music’s opera department, and he anticipates his Shepherd School of Music stage debut as Oberon in Benjamin Britten’s operatic adaptation of the Shakespearean play A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Spring of 2016. Cody is member of the studio Dr. Barbara Paver. He anticipates graduation in the Spring of 2017.
