About Coen Ritsema

Coen Ritsema (ISI Web of Science H-index: 40) has around 30 years of experience in fundamental and applied research in the area of soil and water sciences, and in coordinating large (inter)national multidisciplinary research projects and programmes. During the last 20 years, he coordinated 14 EU-funded research projects successfully. His interest has been focused on land-hydrology interactions at different spatial and temporal scales, with special attention to soil physical processes like runoff and erosion, floods, droughts, desertification, irrigation management, and water repellence. He has published more than 150 research papers in refereed international scientific journals, and was Guest Editor of 7 special issues. Furthermore, Coen Ritsema has been involved in multiple PhD-studies. Coen Ritsema co-organised 10 international conferences during the last 15 years, and has been invited speaker/convenor at more than 20 international conferences. In 1994, he received the Editors' Citation for Excellence in Refereeing for Water Resources Research. He is approached frequently for evaluating research proposals for the NSF and USDA (USA), NSERC (Canada), DIST (Australia), MFC (New Zealand), NWO and SRON (Netherlands), SRC (Sweden), IMEUR (Italy), EU, and others. At present Coen Ritsema is Full Professor Soil Physics and Land Management at Wageningen University. Furthermore, he obtained three Honorary Professorships at i) Deakin University, Australia (2004), ii) the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Yangling, China (2008), and Moscow State University of Environmental Engineering, Russia (2009). He received the Distinguished Researcher Award of the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation in 2013. Additionally he is involved in several commissions inside and outside the Netherlands.
