About Cole Atlin

As Manager, Environment at Calian Nuclear, I bring 13 years of experience in sustainability and environmental decision-making, supported by a PhD in Social-Ecological Sustainability from the University of Waterloo. My doctoral research focused on co-developing sustainability assessment frameworks with Northern remote Indigenous communities, showcasing my commitment to equitable and inclusive approaches to impact assessment. In my current role, I lead initiatives that prioritize meaningful collaboration, creating opportunities to listen to impacted communities and adopt innovative approaches to impact assessment and engagement. I apply my expertise in nuclear impact assessment, licensing, and Indigenous and stakeholder engagement to drive projects that align with sustainability and decarbonization goals. Additionally, our team is developing engagement software and educational programs on nuclear energy, enhancing public understanding and fostering productive dialogue on complex topics. My professional background includes strategic and sustainability assessments, GBA+ analysis, and Indigenous-led assessments, alongside extensive experience in policy development, environmental impact assessments, legal analysis, and public participation. I am particularly passionate about integrating sustainability principles into projects that advance green energy and support a low-carbon future. I thrive at the intersection of technical expertise, innovation, and community collaboration. My goal is to create solutions that address today’s challenges while contributing to a sustainable and equitable future through nuclear energy.
