Background

About Cole Olidis

Passionate student leader at Queen’s University. Thus far in my undergraduate career, I have been able to accomplish many milestones to promote student engagement, build community, and generate revenue while also working in a recreation management team for the Town of Newmarket. Working in the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society (ASUS) since first year, I have since moved up to the Services Commissioner overseeing multiple student services and programs for Arts and Science students. Most notably, I successfully planned and executed the first ArtSci Semi-Formal in November. With over 350 students in attendance, this event built school community and generate revenue for ASUS to fund other student initiatives. Further, with Good Times Diner, I organized a free food bag giveaway providing 106 bags to students. These bags contained fruit and non-perishable items for students. A continued commitment to building community and promoting student engagement can be seen by the multiple events currently being planned for the Winter 2024 academic term. In ASUS as the Services Commissioner, I created and oversee a expense budget. Within Queen’s Relay for Life in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, I successful co-lead registration efforts for the 2023 event being able to process over 350 students in a fast and effective way. This was the first in-person event since before COVID-19 and the 2022-2023 Queen’s Relay for Life Committee was able to surpass 1 million dollars in lifetime donations from Queen’s University. Starting with the Town of Newmarket back in 2018, I moved from an Inclusion Facilitator to the Inclusion Camp Coordinator in 2022. This role demonstrated my commitment to inclusion and accessibility leading a team of 28 Inclusion Facilitators and around 60 campers with additional inclusion and accessibility requirements to be able to fully participate in our recreation camps and programs. In this role, I trained around 170 staff and volunteers with a focus on inclusion, adaption, advocating, LGBTQ+, and bullying. Throughout the role, I worked with various service providers (both local and governmental) and parents to ensure camper success while in recreation.
