About Colette Berg

I am an evolutionary geneticist and computational biologist, primarily focused on plants. I'm currently researching genomics of climate adaptation in switchgrass, a native North American grass with biofuel potential in Dr. David Lowry's Lab at Michigan State University. During my PhD in the Fishman Lab at the University of Montana, I studied the genetic basis of flowering time variation and population genomics of a large chromosomal inversion in yellow monkeyflowers. My dissertation work was truly integrative, involving back-country field work, large greenhouse experiments, bench work, and extensive computational analyses. I also taught Rocky Mountain Flora Lab for five years, honing my skills as a teacher and botanist. I am a motivated, curious, and well-rounded scientist, interested in using evolutionary biology to address environmental and agricultural problems.
