About Colette Dekker

I am a Psychologists, registered with AHPRA. I have a Masters in Forensic Mental Health and Honours in Psychology and Criminology. Over the last 10 years I have face-to-face and telephone counselling for at risk individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including families and children from the Middle East and South Africa as well as Aborigines and refugees. My passion now his working with our vulnerabile children and young people with diverse diagnoses. I also providing trauma counselling for individuals who have experienced traumatic experiences such as a rape, car accident, witnessing a robbery, being involved in a natural disaster or enduring emotional distress or childhood neglect. Working closely with individuals and groups, I focus on identifying the core of each problem, addressing behavioural/personal issues, providing information on the impacts of negative behavior and developing personal plans to help each client take ownership of, and overcome, their problems. I have also facilitated various community programs and government initiatives, such as the: • DO IT Program • Employer Assistance Program • Queensland Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative (QIDDI) • Get Set For Work Program Some of these programs involved working with inmates as well as prisoners on probation and parole, helping them to overcome alcohol and drug addiction, and conducting risk assessments to support the early intervention and presentation of suicide and self-harm.
