About Colette Mrazek

My counselling career began 25 years ago and since then, I have worked in a variety of settings with many different populations. Though I have been fortunate to work with people from all walks of life, my work seems to draw me to those who face discrimination: women, youth at risk, people with special needs, children who have been orphaned, teen parents, new immigrants, indigenous people, people with HIV/AIDS, people struggling with mental illness, people who inject drugs, the homeless, those who have been incarcerated, GLBTQ, and other cultural minorities. While Youth and Family Therapy has historically been my area of focus, I’ve also worked extensively with children, adults and couples addressing a variety of personal issues, such as loneliness/isolation, disordered eating addictions/substance use, grief and loss, death and dying, chronic pain, communication, anger, assertiveness, self-esteem, family conflict and relationship issues, parenting concerns and attachment issues, career and identity, life transitions, stress, anxiety and depression. I possess a B.A. in Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria and a M.Ed. in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. I am a registered therapist through Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP), a member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focussed Therapy (ICEEFT) and a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors #3126.
