About Colette Navin

Hello, I'm Colette. After a career working in Australia and the UK, I am currently living in Brisbane and looking to expand my horizons beyond my specific area in the health industry, into the broader workforce. I currently am enjoying my time continuing to work with patients and customers, however I am interested in expanding connections and relationships in my professional life and looking for new opportunities. But aren't we all? My background is as an experienced Sleep Scientist: my official title is Clinical Physiologist and Polysomnographer, starting in the profession in Aug 2003. I have been RPSGT certified since 2005, and was one of the first cohort of Grandparents to be certified European Somnologist Technologist by the ESRS, in September 2014. I enjoy communicating with others, and have experience in doing so through education and training. Throughout my career I have been involved in training and presenting both within the departments I have worked in and at external conferences. I continue to dabble in visiting lecturer roles at Griffith University, and I worked as Clinical Tutor for Manchester Metropolitan University from 2015-2017, and as Clinical Educator for Metro North Brisbane in 2018. These roles involved not just providing quality educational resources to students but as a senior scientist I was also a mentor, providing guidance, support and leadership to students and other team members. I have engaged in ongoing education throughout my career, completing a Masters of Science in Medicine (Sleep Medicine) from the University of Sydney's David Reed Laboratory in 2016, and will be finishing a Masters in Health Services Management from Griffith University by mid 2022. And I occasionally have a bit of fun, I appeared on BBC's Blue Peter in May 2016, and was a lead role in developing a video about the day in the life of a Clinical Measurement Scientist in Queensland Health in 2018. So, although I primarily have specialist clinical scientist experience, I have a great many transferable skills which I feel would be of value in a number of roles and industries. My interests are particularly in the areas of Health Policy and Workforce Planning and Development, however there are likely a great many fascinating professional areas which I am not yet aware of!
