About Colin Davis

I started commercial fishing on trawlers, gill netting, and trot lining at age 14 in Darien, Georgia. After high school, I attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Marine Transportation, and a USCG 3rd Mate, Oceans, Unlimited tonnage license. During the Academy years, I had three jobs, one of which was as a deckhand for Portland Tugboat, LLC. I also worked for TowboatUS as a captain under the authority of a USCG 6-pack license endorsed with commercial assistance towing that I earned in 2001. I started work immediately after graduation at Kirby Inland Marine in the canal division as a deckhand and worked my way through their Steersman/Mate-Pilot training program for Inland waterways, earning an endorsement to my 3rd Mate License as Mate of Towing, Great Lakes, Western rivers, Inland waters. I earned my Tankerman PIC-Barge along the way as well, and eventually a Master of Towing license. In 2010, I transitioned to Blessey Marine Services, Inc in order to learn the Mississippi River and it’s tributaries on larger horsepower vessels. In 2016, I returned to Kirby but to its River division in order to continue my transition to larger horsepower vessels and larger tow sizes on the river systems of America. In February of 2017, I founded Padre Island Expeditions, LLC and became licensed and permitted by the National Park Service to give guided fishing charters and historical tours of the Padre Island National Seashore. In August of 2018, I realized my dream of becoming a heavy tow pilot on linehaul vessels, starting a new position at Marquette Transportation Company, LLC.
