Extensive understanding of all aspects of group life insurance. Excellent understanding of trust deeds and insurance policies, particularly in relation to trustee and insurer obligations associated with claims assessment and determinations. Vast experience in reviewing insurers decision on declined claims, determining distribution of death benefits and providing advice and guidance to trustees in relation to death and disability claims and any associated complaints. This has included being a member of the claims committee for a large industry fund. Excellent and up to date knowledge of Trustee requirements around claims and legal precedents and AFCA determinations that may impact on claims outcomes. Experience in reviewing insurance operations areas for both the trustee & administrator in relation to processes and procedures, regulatory requirements, delegations, decision making & communications. Up to date knowledge of regulatory changes & the new requirements for Internal Dispute Resolution under RG 271. Experience in dealing with both the insurer, administrator & trustee in relation to insurance matters, particularly in the claims space. Part of the FSC working groug looking at implementing a new standard for claims handling, in lieu of the Insurance in Superannuation Voluntary Code of Practice.
