About Colin Phillippo

For the past nine years I have worked as a research technician in Horticulture at Michigan State University in both the weed control and soil fertility management labs. I finished my bachelor's degree in Plant Biology in 2004, obtained my Master's in Plant Biology in 2011, and have been an MSU Support Staff member ever since. My favorite thing about working as a research technician is that it requires creative problem solving. New research questions frequently require developing new methods, often through an iterative process. I particularly enjoy working on projects that necessitate building new equipment to carry out experiments, such as the prototype solar powered suction trap I built for insect sampling. I am currently seeking a lab management role that leverages my interest and skills with technology and electronics. Ideally, I would prefer a role that requires a mix of logistical and technical expertise. I am always eager to learn something new! I am also very interested in teaching biology courses, preferably at a community college or small university.
