Background
About Colleen Hand
I have been a teacher in the Bronx for five years. I began working at my school teaching pre-kindergarten for the first two years, then I switched to first grade. In my first year of first grade, I taught independently in a general education classroom. I learned many skills during this year, as I had to adjust and learn how to teach my students remotely. Returning back to school the following year I became the general education teacher in an Incorporated Co-Teaching classroom (ICT). I worked with a co-teacher and we had a combined class of general education students and special education. During this year I learned how to teach alongside another teacher. We collaborated, planned, and taught together. Being able to work with another teacher is an extremely important skill to have. Currently, in my fifth year, I am continuing to be the general education teacher in an ICT classroom.
