About Colleen Noffsinger

Over the past 30 years, I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade, as well as supervised and encouraged nine student teachers entering the field of Elementary Education. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from University of Iowa, a Master's Degree in Reading from Dominican University, a Master's Degree in Teaching and Leadership from St. Xavier University, a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as an English as a Second Language Endorsement, from University of Illinois at Chicago. About 16 years ago, I switched out of the classroom and to become a Reading Specialist in a K-5 elementary school. Teaching reading to children is my true passion. In 2017, I was encouraged by a colleague to take on an additional role of being a Literacy Coach to Elementary School teachers in my school district. After 17 years in the same building, I jumped into a new role at a different school. My new journey as a part-time Literacy Coach and part-time Reading Specialist is definitely an adventure. After reading numerous blogs over the years to gain educational insight from others, I decided to contribute to the blogging world as well. I am the creator of Literacy Loving Gals. My focus for the blog is continually evolving, but you'll notice a balance of literacy ideas, sprinkled with reviews on professional texts, as well as collaboration with educators throughout my district and around the globe, in hopes to continue growing professionally as a Literacy Specialist. I am a self-motivated learner who reads an abundance of professional texts, as well as attends conferences, workshops, and virtual webinars to continue professional learning in the area of Literacy and Teaching. Join me on my literacy journey by checking out Literacy Loving Gals or any of my Social Media accounts available on the blog. The link is below.
