About Colleen Small

I am currently working as a Geotechnical EIT with the goal to obtain my Professional Designation. I have been given the opportunity to work on several exciting projects, expanding on my knowledge and skills to include- rock and soil anchor installation (drilling, grouting, and proof testing)- soil drilling (auger and sonic methods)- rotary coring (up to 490 m)- detailed rock core logging - borehole packer testing (assembly and operation)- instrumentation installation (vibrating wire piezometers)- cone penetration testing I am also a key member of the Stantec Geohazards and Geomorphology group, completing Hazard ID assessments and assisting with depth-of-cover surveys of various pipeline watercourse crossing and landslide site locations within Alberta. Survey, fluvial assessment, and terrain assessment data were used to perform scour and/or landslide analyses for each applicable Hazard ID. Due to the variety in my field work, I have practical experience of working at remote sites and helicopter only accessed sites across Western Canada. I have completed work in glacial, tidal, and swift water environments, mountainous terrain, and congested urban areas, while continuing to make safety my priority. Adding to my field experience, I assist with proposal development, field program coordination, geotechnical and geohazards reporting, and performing rock engineering analyses using RocScience software such as DIPS.
