About Collin Barden

I, Collin Barden, was born in 1971 and experienced all of the late 70's disco and pop and funk that prepared me to be a kid in the 80's in East Flatbush, Brooklyn to fully take in the hip-hop and R&B culture that emerged in NYC and the country. I was a slacker extremely into music in my high school years in New Jersey but my aptitude got me into Livingston, College, Rutgers University in 1989 and I eventually got a Psychology degree in My musical and cultural interests had me employed at RED Distribution in 1996, 1997 where I worked as Co-op support in the Finance department where we processed advertising payments for staff and clients. I was very adept at being detail oriented in that job. As I returned to Rutgers in 1997, I worked at Tower Records on the Rock floor where absolutely no one there was my match at helping customers find a song they were unsure who the artist who did it was. My pop culture knowledge was way above all my coworkers. I left Tower Records in and I went to work at Manny's Music, a famous musical instrument store in 48th street in Manhattan where I was once again very in touch with the arts and entertainment industry. I am currently in Georgia but I have family I can stay with in the New Jersey and Connecticut region in order to take any jobs in NYC for the music industry. Simply very few have the combination of aptitude and cultural awareness that I have for my era. I have been very active on the Okayplayer messageboard internet community where once again my insights and awareness have caused me to be a key long lasting contributor to the Okayplayer community since 2008.
