About Collin Murray

Born in Colorado and raised in Montana, I’d like to believe that I have worker advocacy in my blood. As the son of working-class parents, I grew up in a household where the market forces influencing the economy were more than just a statistic on the nightly news. As a student in university, I spent a supermajority of my collegiate career supporting myself as a barista and supervisor at Starbucks, while pursuing a dual-degree in finance and economics.The experience of working on the frontlines of a multinational corporation, while developing a base of theoretical knowledge associated with how the broader economy functions, led me to believe that there are many people in our society who are overworked and underpaid in the name of “freedom” and “shareholder value”. My drive to advocate for workers is a product of being that employee on the frontlines, dealing with a corporate office that views myself and fellow colleagues as a number on a spreadsheet, able to be cut at the whim of middle-managers who are pursuing short-term financial performance through cost-minimization and do not directly bear the consequence of their actions. My ultimate goal is to contribute to balancing out our economic system such that workers, managers, shareholders, and stakeholders wield power in proportion to the individuals and institutions within it.I now hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Finance from The University of Montana, a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Arizona State University, and enjoy working out, playing video games, ping-pong, pool, cards, and reading.
