About Conall Melarkey

Hello! I'm a Creative Media Producer, Designer and Filmmaking Tutor based in Derry, Northern Ireland. ​ I first developed a passion for the visual arts at a young age - filming and editing silly shorts since I was 9 years old. I actually find editing to be the most satisfying and engaging process of it all, as that is when your creations come to life, and where all the arts come together! It is also when all visual storytelling patterns become most apparent, which (I think) is the single most helpful lesson a filmmaker can realize. Since graduating with a Distinction grade in Creative Media from the North West Regional College, and with First class Honours in Media Production from the Ulster University, I have gone on to produce content for companies including Odyssey Cinemas, Foyle Film Festival, Nerve Centre and the North West Academy of English. I have also been fortunate enough to edit work for events featuring world-renowned directors Danny Boyle, Paul Greengrass, Jim Sheridan and the acclaimed writer Frank Cottrell Boyce. ​ I'm extremely grateful to have been acknowledged with numerous awards for my student work, including 3 consecutive first prize wins at the NI Skillset Media Academy's Ulster Media Show. I have also received a Honeycomb Creative Buzz Award, the Ulster University's Greer Garson Award, 2 commendation prizes at the RTS NI Student Awards, and a Broadcast and Electronic Solutions Ltd Award. Alongside this, I regularly produce digital design work and often work as a filmmaking tutor. I hold the position of course tutor for the BFI Film Academy, and have lead my own Summer School filmmaking classes for Italian students visiting Derry through Erasmus+ Oh, I also love running, baking and Polaroid photography (and can basically quote the entire seasons 1-9 of The Simpsons)!
