Background
About Connor Blum
I am a third-year student at the University of Idaho, pursuing a double major in Biochemistry and Physics. I am incredibly interested in how the world works at both molecular and physical levels and how this translates into living organisms. My academic journey is inspired by a passion for research and solving complex problems. This passion comes to life through my role as an undergraduate researcher in peptide synthesis and purification at the Waynant Lab, where I further my understanding of real-life applications of my coursework.Outside the lab, my hobbies further my creativity and critical thinking. I am passionate about 3D printing, which taps into the mechanical side of my interests. However, I love growing cacti and cultivating gourmet mushrooms from spores, which present unique challenges I enjoy tackling. In fact, my diverse interests led me to design and build a laminar flow hood for isolating mushroom cultures, improving yields, and minimizing contamination risks. In addition to my academic interests, this is my second year serving as Resident Assistant at the University of Idaho. This role has allowed me to develop strong leadership and communication skills while learning to navigate a diverse student population on my floor. I thoroughly enjoy organizing events, from movie nights to study sessions, which help residents connect and foster a sense of community. Mentoring students in challenging classes is especially rewarding, as it combines my proactive mindset, problem-solving abilities, and desire to help others.I am always excited to connect with others who share my enthusiasm for science and technology. Whether it’s discussing research, innovations in technology, or the best ways to care for a cactus, I’d love to hear from you!
