About Connor Edlund

Electrical Engineering Ph.D. candidate working in the areas of system design and control with applications in instrumentation. My current research focuses on the design, construction, and programming of an optical tweezers system that incorporates electro-optics, microscopy, sensing, and advanced dynamic control theory to finely manipulate micron and sub-micron scale particles. Designing the controllers involves extensive numerical simulation of the trapped particle's stochastic dynamics under the influence of the trapping laser beam. Further work includes an industry internship at KLA where I evaluated automatic C language firmware code generation for an embedded controller. Other research areas include the numerical simulation of nonlinear stochastic systems. This includes the performance of piezoelectric vibration energy harvesters under noisy excitation, system stabilization using multiplicative noise, and noise-induced effects on discrete breathers (a.k.a energy localizations) in a nonlinear electric lattice.
