Background
About Connor Sampson
While working as an Admissions Ambassador I have gained the necessary experience to facilitate a positive welcoming environment to students, parents, and guests in person, email, and over the phone. I gave tailored tours to our guests based on their major interests while providing helpful insight regarding my personal experience attending ISU. As a veteran Ambassador I possess a broad knowledge of university. Preview has provided me with the tools needed to give the incoming class of students an overview of what they can expect of Illinois State, as well as what the university expects of them. Through these informational dense days I worked very closely with the incoming students to mentor them, provide resources and teach them the means of how to be a successful student at Illinois State. Two years and two promotions later I served as one of two Student Coordinators in Preview. While in this position I was responsible for a vigorous training the Preview Guides undergo, as well as problem solved behind the scenes so our guests have the best possible stay we can provide. In University Housing Services I served as a Community Assistant at Cardinal Court. As an RA I was a first point of contact, referral specialist, role model, conflict manager and most importantly a supporter for my residents. I offer a unique perspective and understanding of our students as I recruited them to ISU, facilitated the transitional period from high school to college and finally mentored them in the residence halls to encourage them to live up to the potential we saw in them when they were admitted. Going to school at ISU and working five jobs at the same time where three of them understand you are a student first but ask that their job comes second was Challenging. Working them at the same time has taught me time management but it also was rewarding by being able to reach out and impact the lives of students for the better.
