About Connor Winterton

I am a Lecturer and Subject Area Lead in Media Studies at Loughborough College, with prior experience as an Associate Lecturer in Media and Communications at Birmingham City University. My doctoral research (2019) explored sexually explicit gay, lesbian, and queer sex in French and North American cinema. My academic specialisms include queer screen cultures, sexual cultures on-screen, film and media theory, and audience studies. I have solo-authored publications on queer cinema and sex (2017, 2021) and action heroism in the works of Quentin Tarantino (2019). Additionally, I have peer-reviewed for Jump Cut, New Cinemas, and MAI: Journal of Feminism and Visual Culture. Beyond academia, I teach adult day courses at Phoenix Cinema (Leicester) and Broadway Cinema (Nottingham) and have participated in public-facing events discussing LGBTQ+ topics. I also contribute as a film reviewer and interviewer for Borrowing Tape, where I have interviewed filmmakers such as Mike Cheslik (Hundreds of Beavers), Lucy Kerr (Family Portrait), Pascal Plante (Red Rooms), and Stefon Bristol (Breathe).
